The Wartime Silver Nickels were coined from mid-1942 thru 1945.  These silver coins are 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese.  They replaced the regular nickel nickels because nickel was a crucial metal for making armor for World War II vehicles.  The numbers struck for each year and each mint were very high and most silver nickels under Extremely Fine in grade are probably ‘Junk Silver’ depending on the current silver prices.  There are only a few miss-strikes which are more collectible.  Feel free to go to www.silvercoins.ag for more information on these Wartime Nickels.
