Seated Liberty Half-Dime 1838

The Seated Liberty half dime was struck first in 1837 during the last year of the Capped Liberty’s half dime striking and replaced this series.  The silver Seated Liberty half dime has six varieties and two different weights during its business run of 1837 to 1873.  All of these half dimes are 15.9mm in diameter and 90% silver.  Those minted in 1837 through 1853 are 1.3g.  The half dimes were reduced to 1.2g from 1853 through 1873.  There are lower numbers of Civil War years strike and a limited number of Proof strikes.  More information is available at: silvercoins.ag For the Seated Liberty Half Dime.
