Seated Liberty 20 Cent Coin 1876

Seated Liberty 20 Cent Coin 1876

The United States twenty cent silver coin was only released for general circulation for two years. The business strikes of the 20 Cent Coin were struck in 1875 and 1876 as an attempt to compete with the French silver franc. Less than 1.4 million were minted. The bulk of which were struck in San Francisco, and almost all of the Carson City Mint’s were melted down leaving only a dozen or two surviving. Proof strikes were made in 1875 through 1878: 2,790, 1,260, 350, and 600 respectively from the Philadelphia Mint.  More information is available at: silvercoins.ag  for the 20 cent piece.
